Water Pump, Water Pump working and Type

centrifugal monoblock pump
Water Pump is a device   to use for transfer water one location to another location and path may be vertical or horizontal.
It is a simple mechanism of a two port , inlet port and outlet port both have different pressure inlet port has low pressure and outlet  port has high pressure due to different in pressure water flow low pressure to high pressure.
A device that transfers liquids such as liquid and gas as well as pumps is popularly known as a pump. Pumps serve a wide range of industries such as aquarium filtering, pond filtering and aeration, pumping water from wells, car industry, energy industry and medical industry. This is done by means of displacement, direct lift or gravity pumps. It consumes energy, performs mechanical operations, and transfers fluid using a variety of energy sources including engines, electricity, wind power, and even manual operation.

Two type of displacement use the water pump

1. Horizontal Discharge - in this discharge water pump use for transfer the water on surface  like as in agriculture field to fill the field by the water
2. Vertical Discharge - in this discharge , water pump use for transfer the water low head to high head like as in home to fill the water tank

There are many type of water pump are available. and widely use of water pump. Different type of industry use the water pump, most common uses in domestic and agriculture area.

Water Pump Working

In generally domestic water pump is most common pump. and domestic water pump is a monoblock pump, monoblock pumpis a combination of motor and pump so its called monoblock pump.
Centrifugal Pump
Flow in is low pressure point and flow out is high pressure point. hence water flow inlet port to outlet port. domestic pump is Centrifugal Pump.

Reciprocating Pump
Above pic is a hand pump pic, in this pic two port one is connect by borewell and second water tab. same in both port have pressure different. hand pump is   Reciprocating Pump.

Water Pump Type

Many types of pumps are used in various applications. Some of these pumps include vacuum pumps, garbage pumps, hydraulic pumps, Submersible pumps , heat pump and water pumps.
Mainly two type of Pump are as
  1. Reciprocating Pump
  2. Centrifugal Pump
Reciprocating Pump used for high pressure and its also called Piston Pump.Water pumps provide a certain amount of flow through mechanical contraction and expansion of a flexible diaphragm. Positive displacement pumps are used in many industries that manage high-viscosity liquids and where sensitive solids may be present. They are recommended for applications requiring a combination of low flow and high pressure.
Centrifugal Pump used for low pressure and its also called impeller pump. A centrifugal water pump uses a rotating impeller to transfer water to the pump and suppress the discharge flow. Centrifugal water pumps come in many different types, including standard, garbage and submersible models. All liquids can be pumped using centrifugal water pumps, even those with low viscosity. These pumps work well with thin liquids and offer high flow rates.
On the basis of Driving system -
  1. Self priming monoblock pump
  2. Engine driven water pump
Self priming monoblock pump mostly use in domestically and other pump mostly used in agriculture

 Water Pump Function

 Water Head

 Water Pump Function diagram

A common misconception is that the head equals the fluid's energy per unit weight, while, in fact, the term with pressure does not represent any type of energy (in the Bernoulli equation for an incompressible fluid this term represents work of pressure forces). Head is useful in specifying centrifugal pumps because their pumping characteristics tend to be independent of the fluid's density.

is the acceleration due to gravity

Discharge Rate

flow rate is defined as the rate of liquid discharge by pump per minute or per hour its denoted by Q
Q=AV
 Where:
Q = discharge in m3/sec or ft3/sec
A = cross-sectional area of flow in m2 or ft2
v = mean velocity of flow in m/sec or ft/sec
ρ = mass density of fluid in kg/m3 or slugs/ft3
γ = unit weight of fluid in N/m3 or lb/ft3

Pressure of Water

Pressure may defined as velocity of liquid

Important Point for Buying a Water Pump

Material

what kind of material use for making water pump body and impeller. light weight material is best and corrosion resistance power is to be high.

Head

head decided by application of water pump low head water pump small building use and as well as height increase head also want to be high

 Flow rate or capacity

water discharge capacity per minute

Power

motor power is defined as all function of as well as all function is increasing power also increasing.

Application of Water Pump

 Agricultural Use

borewell water pump, open well water pump and submersible pump engine pump and solar water pump etc. many pump use in agriculture field.

Fire protection system

in industry , hospital and building, use water pump for prevention  of fire. water pump provided water supply on emergency and fire protection vehicle use also water pump

Building

for water supply ground to top flour and in different room use also water pump. for supply water in shower and to fill water tank.

Automobile

In car , a small water pump use for supply of water in radiator to cooling the engine. and all type of engine where water cooled system use , water pump used fur supply of water.

Home appliance

In water cooler use water pump, and in fish aquarium use water or air pump
